It was even more pleasant than usual for Networks Unlimited to host our partners at the 2021 7th Annual Networks Unlimited Charity Golf Day earlier this month. Our previous golf day during 2020 was held as usual in March, so we had to wait a couple of extra months this year due to the COVID-19 situation.
Certainly, at least for me, the extra time that had lapsed in between the annual events made me a little thoughtful, and grateful that Networks Unlimited has been not just surviving, but also thriving through this difficult global period that first started manifesting in late 2019. It does make the realities of those who are less fortunate even more stark in comparison – something of which we at Networks Unlimited have always been aware.
In this regard, two causes have always been dear to our hearts, namely trying to assist the youth of South Africa, and investing in education. These two causes frequently dovetail, and this was certainly the case at our golf day this year, where the beneficiaries, as most of you will know by now, are Literacy for Life and The Love Trust.
Literacy for Life is a non-profit company that was established in November 2014 to help cash-strapped South African schools achieve literacy and communication skills. Being able to assist in providing aids or tools to assist children to be able to learn to read and write, as well as experience the opportunity to express themselves through art, is a truly rewarding cause.
The Love Trust, founded in 2009, is a South African non-profit educational organisation which has, to date, reached over 20,000 primary and secondary beneficiaries in disadvantaged communities. It is also the 53 percent broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) partner of Networks Unlimited Africa, in a partnership arrangement which allows Networks Unlimited Africa to support our outreach efforts to change the lives of vulnerable children through real practical and educational support.
The Love Trust believes in reducing poverty and social inequality through holistic education and social care that includes academic excellence, spiritual strength and moral integrity. The Love Trust runs a number of initiatives focused on childhood development and the upskilling of teachers.
Nokuphila Primary and Pre-Primary School in Tembisa offers quality education for some of the most vulnerable and underprivileged children in the community, as well as providing them with food and transport to school.
The Nokuphila Teacher Training Academy trains and develops accredited early childhood development teachers at its flagship centre in Tembisa, with over 700 pre-school teachers having graduated so far. The teachers themselves come from an impoverished background, but having been upskilled, they are then able to take their knowledge and skills in turn to the children of their communities, both rural and township, thereby contributing to a virtuous circle of community upliftment.
And so we are extremely grateful to our sponsors who helped us raise almost R145,000 this year towards these two very worthy causes. This year’s sponsors included, from among our vendors, partners, customers and business associates, the following companies (in alphabetical order):
Altaro, Barnard Incorporated Attorneys, Big Save (URSIDEX (PTY) LTD), Coca Cola Beverages South Africa, Datacentrix, DataSciences, Digital Stream, Dimension Data, Fizz Marketing, Fortinet, Hitachi Vantara, icomm (Intelligent Communications), Linde & Viljoen & Associates, NETSCOUT, ProStream, Rubrik, Savino, SenitelOne, Sintrex, Stephen Brown, Tenable, Tintri and VNQ.
Together, by supporting Literacy for Life and The Love Trust, we are all proudly playing a role in making sure that some of our poorest communities receive quality education and practical support.
This in turn provides people in these communities, both children and adults, with a greater chance of being employed, and thereby in turn improving the quality of our future workforce and having a positive future impact on our country’s economy.
