Fortinet: Leader in Gartner's 2014 Magic Quadrant for UTM
Fortinet has once again been positioned as a leader in the Gartner UTM Magic Quadrant for 2014. This is now the sixth consecutive year that Fortinet has been recognised by Gartner as a leader in UTM.
In an online survey conducted by Fortinet in 2013, it was found that around 30% of all buyers are significantly influenced by Gartner's recommendations, and another 30% always consult with Gartner with respect to their future strategies and purchases.
It's therefore obvious that Gartner and its opinions are extremely influential in the market, so Fortinet's outstanding result in the UTM Magic Quadrant for 2014 provides strong validation of its Connected UTM strategy to deliver high-performance, comprehensive security that's easy to manage.
Gartner commented in the report, to say that it "views Fortinet as setting the cadence in the UTM market, driving its competitors to react". In addition, Gartner made these positive claims:
* "Fortinet is a good candidate for every organisation in need of a UTM."
* "It [Fortinet] also owns the largest market share, growing faster than the market average, and has the largest base of certified channel partners for UTM technology."
Gartner also notes in the report: "The combination of wireless access point management, WiFi analytics, high port density and power on Ethernet along with the availability of price-competitive UTM appliances appeals to small businesses looking for more than a security gateway, as well as to distributed retail organisations."
This highlights the importance of Fortinet's strategy to integrate wireless, switching and WiFi analytics into its UTM platform, in addition to its broad security capabilities. Fortinet needs to ensure it is including these additional technologies in its UTM conversations with customers and prospects.
